Mr. Anthony Bevan
Mr. Bevan’s journey with Tapion Hospital began with a request from Dr. Trona Bennett to assist in resolving a series of operational challenges. What was initially intended to be a two-week engagement quickly evolved into a full-time commitment. Known as a “Mister Fix It,” he quickly established a reputation for being timely and unflappably reliable, qualities that proved essential in addressing the hospital’s evolving needs.
At the time, Dr. Romel Daniel served as Chairman and emphasized the need for a property manager who would take true ownership of Tapion’s facilities. Embracing this vision, Mr. Bevan adopted a collaborative management approach—working closely with department leaders, sharing responsibility, and encouraging active participation in decision-making.
This team-driven philosophy led to the successful initiation and completion of several key projects that helped establish Tapion Hospital as a premier healthcare institution in Saint Lucia. These included the development of the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Radiology Department, and the construction of the New Wing, which significantly expanded the hospital’s medical services.
The role required navigating complex challenges, calling for diplomacy and adaptability. He benefited from the unwavering support of the hospital’s dedicated staff and the invaluable guidance of several founding members, whose contributions continue to inspire.
His involvement in Tapion Hospital’s growth and success remains one of the most rewarding aspects of his professional journey.
Ms Jane Romulus (Deceased)
Miss Jane Romulus was there when Tapion opened its doors in 1996. And was a woman of remarkable discipline, strength, and unwavering dedication. Known affectionately as Miss Jane, she was a proud member of the Tapion team from its very inception and served the institution faithfully until her retirement. From the beginning, she carried Tapion Hospital in her heart, always placing the best interests of the institution above all else.
Miss Jane began her journey at Tapion as a housekeeper. Through hard work, integrity, and determination, she rose through the ranks and was later promoted to Housekeeping and Restaurant Manager. Her progression was a true testament to her commitment, leadership, and belief in excellence.
Over the course of twenty-six years, she worked tirelessly alongside every department, playing an integral role in ensuring that Tapion Hospital achieved accreditation. She led with firmness and discipline, holding herself and her team to the highest standards. Though she was a strict disciplinarian, she was deeply respected and genuinely loved by those she led, as her expectations were always rooted in care, fairness, and pride in their work. To her family, and especially to her daughter, Miss Jane was an enduring source of inspiration. Her legacy is one of perseverance, loyalty, and selfless service. She will forever be remembered for her invaluable contributions, her steadfast dedication, and the lasting impact she made on Tapion Hospital and everyone whose lives she touched.
Sister Denise Auguste
Sister Denise Auguste joined Tapion Hospital in 1998, during its second year of service as Saint Lucia’s first private hospital. A pioneering and trusted nursing professional, she grew alongside the institution, embodying an ever-evolving approach to care while placing a strong premium on accountability. Throughout her tenure, she has witnessed the hospital’s challenges, resilience, and steady transformation.
In its early years, resources were limited and the path forward was demanding. However, through commitment, teamwork, and faith, the hospital continued to progress and strengthen its foundation—principles that Sister Denise consistently upheld in her own practice.
Over time, Tapion Hospital evolved into a trusted healthcare facility, expanding its services and enhancing its emergency care capabilities. Today, as a senior nurse, Sister Denise Auguste takes pride in having contributed to this remarkable journey, helping to uphold standards of excellence, responsibility, and patient-centered care.
For her, Tapion Hospital is more than a workplace—it is a community built on dedication, service, and perseverance.
Verona Maye
Sir. George Theophilus (CBE, SLC)
Mr. George Theophilus, CBE, SLC, stands as an iconic figure in the development of Tapion Hospital, bringing exceptional financial acumen, public sector leadership, and strategic vision to its foundation and growth. As a member of the Finance Committee of Medical Associates during the hospital’s formative years, he played a critical role in shaping the financial and governance frameworks that underpinned Tapion’s establishment, helping to guide the institution from concept to a sustainable reality.
A distinguished economist and public administrator, Mr. Theophilus has had a remarkable career spanning education, government, regional finance, and development banking. He served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Deputy Managing Director of the East Caribbean Currency Authority, and Managing Director of the St. Lucia Development Bank, where he was instrumental in advancing national economic development and financial stability.
Through his consultancy work across the Caribbean, he provided expert guidance in economic management, banking reform, and institutional restructuring to governments, central banks, and major organizations. His involvement with Medical Associates and other national institutions reflected his deep commitment to strengthening systems that support sustainable growth and public service.
Mr. Theophilus has also held numerous leadership roles, including Chairman of the National Commercial Bank of Saint Lucia, the St. Lucia Development Bank, and Helen Television Systems, as well as serving on regional and international committees focused on finance, education, and development. His intellectual contributions include over fifty papers and monographs on key issues in banking, economics, and public administration.
In recognition of his outstanding service, he has been awarded several national and international honours, including Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and the Saint Lucia Cross (SLC).

Dr. Kenneth Andrew Richardson (Deceased)
Dr. Kenneth Andrew Richardson was a premier founding force behind Tapion Hospital and a pillar in its establishment and sustained growth.
A visionary surgeon and leader, he spearheaded the creation of the hospital alongside a small group of committed colleagues and community partners, transforming an ambitious idea into one of Saint Lucia’s leading healthcare institutions.
As Founder, Chairman of the Board, and Medical Director, he guided Tapion from inception, shaping its standards, culture, and long-term direction. He was known for consistently asking a defining question—“What are we selling?”—to which his answer was clear: “Confidence,” a philosophy that became central to the Tapion brand and patient experience.
Trained at the University of the West Indies and in General Surgery in Ottawa, Canada, Dr. Richardson brought international expertise to Saint Lucia, combining clinical excellence with strategic vision. He was a pioneer of minimally invasive surgery on the island, performing Saint Lucia’s first laparoscopic procedure at Tapion Hospital in 1998 and ushering in a new era of surgical advancement.
Dr. Richardson also dedicated nearly three decades to public service as a General Surgeon at Victoria Hospital, where he served as Head of the Department of Surgery and mentored a generation of young surgeons. His influence extended regionally as a founding leader of the Caribbean College of Surgeons, where he served as its first Secretary and Treasurer, helping to shape surgical standards across the Caribbean. Beyond his clinical and leadership achievements, Dr. Richardson was widely respected for his professionalism, humility, and unwavering commitment to patient care. His legacy at Tapion Hospital and across Saint Lucia is defined by innovation, mentorship, and a steadfast dedication to excellence. He remains an enduring symbol of vision and service—one whose impact continues to be felt in the institution he helped build and the lives he touched.
Mr. Michael Bruce Garnet Gordon (CBE, KC)
Mr. Michael Bruce Garnet Gordon, CBE, QC, MA, is a distinguished legal professional and a central figure in the establishment and development of Tapion Hospital.
As a key member of the founding group, he played a critical role in transforming the vision of Tapion into a reality, providing strategic direction, legal expertise, and governance structure during its formative years and continues to present day.
Mr. Gordon was instrumental in guiding the hospital through its early and more challenging phases, ensuring strong board governance, sound legal frameworks, and organizational stability. His leadership and counsel helped secure the foundation upon which Tapion Hospital has grown into a leading healthcare institution. A stable and trusted confidant to Tapion Hospital’s leadership, he has provided measured guidance during pivotal and often difficult decision-making periods.
A former Managing Partner of Gordon, Gordon & Co., Mr. Gordon led the firm for nearly three decades before serving with distinction as a Judge of the Court of Appeal and Acting Chief Justice. He has since returned to private practice, bringing with him a wealth of legal and judicial experience.
Mr. Gordon’s unflagging commitment to Tapion Hospital has been a defining element of its strategic development and long-term success, and his support and counsel continue to this day.
Dr. Stephen King (OBE, SLC)
Dr. Stephen King, OBE, SLC is a founding member of Tapion Hospital and a key architect in its establishment and evolution. As part of the core group that conceptualized the hospital, he played a central role in navigating the complexities of developing a modern private healthcare institution, helping to shape its strategic direction, clinical standards, and long-term vision.
A distinguished pathologist and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, Dr. King has combined clinical expertise with national healthcare leadership. His experience in health system planning—including his contributions to Saint Lucia’s Health Sector Reform, Universal Health Care proposals, and National Strategic Plan for Health—has informed his role in guiding Tapion’s growth into a world-class medical facility.
Beyond his work at Tapion, Dr. King has been deeply committed to community development and public health advocacy. He is a co-founder of the AIDS Action Foundation and RISE (St. Lucia) Inc., championing youth empowerment, healthy development, and violence reduction. He has also served as an Independent Senator, contributing to national policy and governance. Dr. King’s enduring contribution to Tapion Hospital reflects a unique blend of visionary leadership, clinical excellence, and a lifelong commitment to improving healthcare and society in Saint Lucia. His indelible contribution continues to this day, shaping the institution’s ongoing development and reinforcing its commitment to excellence.
Dr. Trona Bennett (Deceased)
Dr. Trona Bennett was a founding member of Tapion Hospital and a former Medical Director, she helped guide the hospital’s clinical foundation and standards from its inception.
Her leadership was instrumental in establishing a culture of excellence, professionalism, and patient-centered care that continues to define the institution. Known for her persistent authenticity, she led with integrity and honesty, fostering trust and respect across all levels of the organization.
A highly respected obstetrician-gynaecologist and graduate of the University of the West Indies, Dr. Bennett was known for her clinical skill and pioneering work in minimally invasive surgery, particularly laparoscopy.
At Tapion Hospital, she built a strong and trusted OBGYN practice while helping to elevate the overall quality of clinical services.
As Medical Director, she guided the development of clinical protocols, mentored colleagues, and set high standards for care delivery across the hospital.
