Dr. Stephen King, OBE, SLC is a founding member of Tapion Hospital and a key architect in its establishment and evolution. As part of the core group that conceptualized the hospital, he played a central role in navigating the complexities of developing a modern private healthcare institution, helping to shape its strategic direction, clinical standards, and long-term vision.
A distinguished pathologist and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, Dr. King has combined clinical expertise with national healthcare leadership. His experience in health system planning—including his contributions to Saint Lucia’s Health Sector Reform, Universal Health Care proposals, and National Strategic Plan for Health—has informed his role in guiding Tapion’s growth into a world-class medical facility.
Beyond his work at Tapion, Dr. King has been deeply committed to community development and public health advocacy. He is a co-founder of the AIDS Action Foundation and RISE (St. Lucia) Inc., championing youth empowerment, healthy development, and violence reduction. He has also served as an Independent Senator, contributing to national policy and governance. Dr. King’s enduring contribution to Tapion Hospital reflects a unique blend of visionary leadership, clinical excellence, and a lifelong commitment to improving healthcare and society in Saint Lucia.
