With 41 years in clinical medicine, the last 35 in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G), Dr Leslie Anne Bishop recognizes that all people should have access to equitable, high-quality health care. As a founding member of the Medical Associates, Tapion Hospital, she was determined to ensure that excellent women’s health was available to residents of Saint Lucia, and to visitors to the island.
Following graduation from the Faculty of Medicine, University of the West Indies, and obtaining the MB.BS in 1984, Dr Bishop obtained the Diploma in Anaesthesia (UWI) in 1988. From 1991 to 1996, she undertook her postgraduate O&G training in the UK. and received the MRCOG in 1995.
On return to Saint Lucia, she worked as Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist at Victoria Hospital, then at Tapion Hospital until 2017. As President of Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association in 2006, Dr Bishop focused on Sexual and Reproductive health issues, such as Child Sexual Abuse. In 2012, Dr Bishop was elevated to Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK), and in 2018 achieved the postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (Liverpool).
Since May 2017, Dr Bishop have been employed as a Specialist Medical Officer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Scarborough General Hospital, Tobago, and Head of Department from July 2023. She is currently a member of the Council of the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.
