I am a General Surgeon with more than 15 years experience in both public
and private health sectors. I graduated from the University of the West Indies
as one of the first and few female General Surgeons to do so and I returned
to Saint Lucia as the first and youngest local Female General Surgeon. I have
a special interest in Breast Cancer and Breast Diseases & Health. I am also an
avid advocate for healthy living, health sector reform and health equity.
From during my residency at UWI (Mona, Jamaica) I was drawn to advocacy. I
knew that my area of interest – Breast Cancer and Breast Diseases & Health –
was an area that as a WOMAN, I would be able to advocate for better
education, screening, diagnosis and treatment. My experiences there have
mirrored my experiences throughout the Caribbean where I have worked and
visited. I also recognized very early on that, as a clinician, and specifically a
surgeon, I would have a unique 360 degree view of most health systems – the
deficiencies, the areas we did well, the areas that needed advocacy and most
importantly, the reasons why advocacy was necessary. I knew I had to be a
voice for the patients I saw. Volunteering is innate for me….although little did
I know it would lead to holding the position of President of Saint Lucia
Cancer Society.
I continue to ADVOCATE FOR, MENTOR & EDUCATE anyone who crosses my
path, starting with our very young. And I continue to strive to deliver the best
quality CARE for all of my patients.
