Dr. Lashorn Christian

Dr. Lashorn Christian Consultant Paediatrician and Adolescent Health Specialist

M. D., D.M. UWI (Paeds), PG Dip (Adolescent Medicine)

Dr. Lashorn Christian is a dedicated and compassionate Paediatrician and Adolescent Health Specialist. She boasts over 15 years of experience in clinical Medicine. She has a strong passion for promoting the well-being of children, and is committed to delivering personalized and family-centred care. Her emphasis is preventive care and early intervention, with familial involvement.

Education and Training

Dr. Christian completed her Medical Degree in the Republic of Cuba in 2010. She has worked with children since 2013, fulfilling the Doctor of Medicine degree in Paediatrics from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona campus, in 2019. Dr. Christian also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Adolescent Health and Advocacy from the UWI Mona campus in 2022. She is certified in Leadership & Management in Health from the University of Washington.

Dr. Christian joined the Tapion Hospital team in 2024. She offers a variety of paediatric services inclusive of:

  • Care of the new-born at birth and as out-patient.
  • Management of acute paediatric illness in admitted children.
  • Well-baby and child follow up.
  • Developmental and behavioural surveillance.
  • Immunizations.
  • Adolescent medicine.

Dr.  Christian is a member of the Paediatric Association of Jamaica. She has presented at multiple medical conferences; and has appraised articles for the revision of the “Purple Book of Child Sexual Assault” by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. She currently has two journal publications. The International Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine May 2025 epub Issue, highlighted her paper “Analysis of Demographics, Examination Findings and the Social Circumstances of Paediatric Sexual Assault Cases at a Public Hospital in Saint Lucia”. Her other publication “Successful Caribbean Cooperation in Childhood Cancer Care: The Martinique-St. Lucia-Dominica Experience in the Management of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia”, was presented in the Pediatric Blood and Cancer Journal in the July 2025 epub issue.

Dr. Christian is an advocate for children and adolescents, especially those living with Sickle Cell Disease and neurodevelopmental delays.

Dr. Gavin Melville

Dr. Gavin Melville, MBBS, DMO, MPM, started with Tapion Hospital in 2002. A highly experienced physician specializing in Emergency Medicine, Hyperbaric Medicine, and General Practice. He completed his medical training at the University of Guyana, followed by clinical experience at Mount Hope Hospital in Trinidad, and advanced training in Hyperbaric Medicine with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) in Seattle, USA.

Dr. Melville has made a significant and enduring contribution to Tapion Hospital, where he served for over a decade as the hospital’s first—and for many years, only—Emergency Room physician. In this pioneering role, he was instrumental in establishing and sustaining emergency medical services, providing consistent, high-quality acute care and demonstrating exceptional commitment to patient care and institutional development.

He continues to play a vital role at Tapion Hospital as the lead physician overseeing the Saint Lucia Hyperbaric Chamber, where he manages the treatment of diving-related injuries and other UHMS-approved conditions. His expertise has been central to the development and delivery of hyperbaric medicine services at the hospital.

In addition to his work at Tapion, Dr. Melville serves as the Divers Alert Network (DAN) Referral Physician for Saint Lucia and maintains a private medical practice.
