Dr. C. Parris

Obstetrician Gynaecologist, Christine Parris is Canadian born, St. Lucia rooted and Jamaican grown.

After topping her A level class with high honours, Christine obtained a full scholarship and attended McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada obtaining a Bachelor of Science with Honours, Majoring in Chemistry and Minoring in Maths before following her heart back to Jamaica to study medicine at the University of the West Indies. She obtained her Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine MBBS in 1997 and consistent with her mantra of humanitarian service above self, she obtained Honours in Community Health and Psychiatry.

On completion of her medical degree, Dr Parris did her 18 month internship then worked a further 12 months in General Surgery and Anaesthesia/ICU at Kingston Public Hospital and Victoria Jubilee Hospital honing her surgical and pain management skills before taking up her post graduate studies at the University of the West Indies Mona.

She obtained junior fellowship in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2000 and Membership of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) in 2001. During this time, with a love for teaching and advocacy, Dr Parris lectured in the Department of Nursing Education, at the School of Midwifery, UHWI.

She obtained her Doctor of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2004 and was elevated to Fellowship to the esteemed American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FACOG).

Her area of special interest include cancer screening and prevention in particular Colposcopy and cervical cancer prevention and management; gynae endocrinology – hormonal medicine from puberty through menopause, including infertility, PCOS, menstrual disorders, and hormonal imbalances affecting reproduction, metabolism, and overall well-being.

She is a member of the Caribbean College of Surgeons and the St. Lucia Cancer Society. She is an active lifetime member of the St. Lucia National Trust , a Paul Harris Fellow and  Rotarian and current currently sits on the St. Mary’s College School Board of Management. Driven by her passion for cancer prevention, she recently accepted an appointment as the SLMDA Representative on the Pesticide and Toxic Chemicals Control Board.

Dr Parris loves health education and enjoys research particularly as it pertains to her area of special interest in gynaecological cancers and improving health care delivery and as such has numerous scientific publications.

During her tenure at Victoria Hospital she served as Chairperson of the Infection Control Committee from December 2004 to December 2010 and co-authored the ICC manual governing same. Dr Christine Parris has her private practice and Colposcopy clinic at the Gablewoods Mall in Sunny Acres
