Job Summary:

Tapion Hospital is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and skilled Midwife to join our dedicated maternity care team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, holistic care to women throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postnatal period in accordance with hospital policies, national standards, and best clinical practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive antenatal assessments, including maternal and fetal monitoring.
  • Identify high-risk pregnancies and refer or escalate care appropriately.
  • Provide continuous clinical and emotional support to women during labor and delivery.
  • Monitor labor progress using appropriate tools and clinical guidelines.
  • Perform normal vaginal deliveries within scope of practice.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to obstetric emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage and eclampsia.
  • Assist obstetricians and other healthcare providers with procedures when required.
  • Provide immediate newborn care, including assessment and resuscitation where necessary.
  • Deliver postnatal care to both mother and baby, including breastfeeding support and health education.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to physician orders and hospital policy.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of patient care.
  • Educate patients and families on pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, postpartum recovery, and family planning.
  • Ensure infection prevention and control practices are consistently followed.
  • Collaborate effectively with obstetricians, pediatricians, nurses, anesthetists, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Uphold ethical standards, patient confidentiality, dignity, and informed consent at all times.

Qualifications & Experience:

Academic Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree in Nursing (BSN/ADN) is required.

Licensure / Certification:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) certification is considered an asset.

Skills, Competencies and Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical midwifery experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide emotional support.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.

  • Antenatal care including maternal and fetal health assessment and education.
  • Labor and delivery management including monitoring labor and conducting normal deliveries.
  • Postnatal care for mother and newborn including breastfeeding support.

  • Build trusting and respectful relationships with women and their families.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately in sensitive situations.

  • Assess complex clinical situations and make timely, evidence-based decisions.
  • Utilize risk assessment tools and clinical guidelines appropriately.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
  • Ensure clear and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

Leadership and Advocacy:

  • Advocate for women’s health rights and choices.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the institution.
